Meet Brittany Dunlap, LPC
Professional Background
I have been honored to provide counseling to children, teens, young adults, and women experiencing a wide range of concerns in a variety of settings, including women’s residential care, outpatient services for children in foster care, on campus college counseling services, and private practice. I earned my Masters in Counseling Education from Stetson University in 2018, and prior to my counseling education I worked as a women and children’s advocate in a domestic violence agency for six years. After graduating, I stayed in Florida and provided play therapy to children in foster care for two years. I then joined a group practice where I provided therapy to children and adults for another two years. In 2023 I moved and settled down with my family in Virginia Beach.
I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I founded Juniper Counseling and Wellbeing in 2023 to offer counseling and coaching services to individuals and families in the Hampton Roads community. I maintain my Florida counseling license (LMHC) and offer teletherapy to Florida residents. I have extensive training in play therapy, a developmentally appropriate avenue for children to process and express their inner world, and to build emotional resilience. I am fully trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a structured and evidence-based approach to relieving psychological distress associated with traumatic memories. I am currently in the consultation phase of EMDRIA certification. Issues I am passionate about and have experience with include attachment healing, developmental trauma, self-esteem, bullying, anxiety, depression, ADHD, sensory processing issues, highly sensitive children, PTSD, women’s issues, young adult development, gender identity development and LGBTQ+ related concerns, and bereavement. I am a member of the Association for Play Therapy, the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association, and the EMDR International Association.
Let’s work together.
I have been honored to walk alongside many children, parents, and adults striving for balance, well being, and wholeness during these uncertain times. I meet clients where they are and work in a gentle and collaborative way. Life is full of challenges and it is common to get stuck or have difficulty seeing the way through. I find that many clients begin to find healing and new ways of being as they experience a safe place to feel seen and heard, and as they begin to connect more with themselves.
