Adolescent Counseling
Teens and tweens go through huge developmental changes and it can be a time of growth and challenge for any family. When I work with children and adolescents, I see them as individuals that are an inseparable part of an interactional network of family, peer, educational, and community support. A therapeutic relationship can be a vital part of that network, especially during times of stress and transition. I use a person-centered, creative, flexible, and a playful approach with teens and preteens, creating a space where they feel accepted and free to learn more about themselves, and can find better ways to solve their problems.
I invite parents to be active participants in the therapeutic process, whether through parent consultation or co-therapy sessions as needed. When teens have learning needs, sensory processing issues, or present with other neurodivergent ways of being, I often consult with other providers involved in their life as part of treatment planning. It can be overwhelming to navigate so many providers and I offer support to parents who are in the struggle. With teens who have experienced trauma, we can integrate EMDR, an evidenced-based treatment into therapy.
