Play Therapy
"To play it out is the most natural self-healing process in childhood"
- ERIK ERIKSON -
Play is fun and it is a child's natural language.
Through play children explore and learn about themselves and show the therapist what is happening in their physical and psychological world.
I practice integrative play therapy, drawing on humanistic approaches and incorporating expressive arts. I draw inspiration from the child-centered foundations of play therapy, as well as more prescriptive approaches advocated by Violet Oaklander, Eliana Gil, and Paris Goodyear-Brown. I tailor my approach to children based on their age, developmental needs, and their stage of treatment. My goal is to help children gain insight and have more contact with themselves, to increase their emotional resilience, and learn new ways to solve their problems.
I became trained in EMDR in 2020, because I found that children and individuals with trauma often needed a more targeted and structured approach to improving their mental wellbeing. EMDR can be incorporated into the play therapy process and I am actively in consultation and learning more techniques in this approach to trauma therapy.
